The real difference between GetResponse and Systeme.io
GetResponse and Systeme.io now overlap across email, automation, funnels, courses, landing pages and online selling. That can make a feature checklist look surprisingly similar. The useful distinction is where each platform started and what it still treats as the centre of the product.
GetResponse is email-first. Its architecture is organised around contacts, lists, campaigns, autoresponders, segmentation, marketing automation, ecommerce events and increasingly broad conversion tools. Funnels, webinars, courses and paid newsletters have been added around a mature email-marketing core.
Systeme.io is business-builder-first. Its pricing page leads with contacts, CRM pipelines, email, funnels, websites, courses, communities, affiliate management, bookings and selling infrastructure. Email is important, but it is one module inside a platform designed to take a creator or small online business from lead capture through checkout and delivery.
That history still matters. A business whose success depends on email segmentation and lifecycle marketing will usually feel the difference in GetResponse. A creator whose priority is launching a funnel, selling a course, recruiting affiliates and keeping software costs close to zero will usually feel the difference in Systeme.io.
Pricing and free plans: Systeme.io is much more aggressive
Systeme.io currently has four self-service plans: Free, Startup, Webinar and Unlimited. Free supports up to 2,000 contacts. Startup costs $17 per month and supports 5,000 contacts. Webinar costs $47 per month and supports 10,000 contacts. Unlimited costs $97 per month and removes the contact limit. Annual billing is priced at 10 monthly payments—$170, $470 and $970—effectively giving two months free.
GetResponse prices by contact-list size and plan. At the 1,000-contact level, Starter is $19 per month, Marketer $59 and Creator $69 on monthly billing. Annual billing discounts those to $15.58, $48.38 and $56.58 per month equivalent. Enterprise is custom priced.
On pure entry economics, Systeme.io is dramatically more generous. Its Free plan is not simply a short trial. It includes 2,000 contacts, unlimited email sending, three sales funnels, one course, one blog, one custom domain, affiliate management and core automation with plan limits. The pricing page also says all plans include unlimited file storage, unlimited students and zero platform transaction fees.
GetResponse also has a forever-free account, contrary to several stale comparison pages that still describe it as trial-only. New free accounts receive 14 days of temporary premium-feature access. After that, the account remains free with up to 500 contacts, 2,500 newsletter sends per month, one landing page and basic email/list-building tools.
Contact limits and email sending
The pricing philosophies are almost opposite. Systeme.io effectively charges for contact capacity and plan-resource limits, not email volume. Its official pricing says email sending is unlimited on every plan, including Free. The company even publishes a help article explaining that one million monthly emails can still be covered by the $97 Unlimited plan if the sender follows its email policies.
GetResponse also offers unlimited monthly email sends on paid Starter, Marketer and Creator. The difference is list-based billing. Pricing rises as the account moves through contact bands, and GetResponse treats each list independently. If the same email address exists on three lists, it counts as three contacts for billing purposes.
GetResponse also considers the peak active subscriber count and contacts added during the billing month. A business that imports, deletes and replaces large lists inside one billing cycle can move into a higher pricing band even if the final active audience looks smaller.
Systeme.io is easier to model when your email strategy is high frequency. GetResponse can still be economical because paid sends are unlimited, but list architecture matters. Copying the same subscribers into several lists can inflate the bill without increasing unique reach.
Email marketing: GetResponse wins depth
Both products can send newsletters and automated email, but GetResponse is the stronger email-marketing system. It has a mature visual editor, autoresponders, advanced segmentation on Marketer and above, engagement reporting, send scheduling, ecommerce segmentation, website tracking and a broader set of email-centric workflow tools.
Starter already includes unlimited newsletters, autoresponders, landing pages, forms and one custom automation workflow. Marketer adds advanced segmentation, abandoned-cart recovery, web push, revenue reporting and unlimited automation workflows. Creator keeps that email depth while adding monetisation tools.
Systeme.io includes unlimited newsletters and email sending at every tier, but plan limits apply to items such as campaigns, tags, automation rules and workflows. Free allows one email campaign, one tag, one automation rule and one workflow. Startup raises these to 10 campaigns, 10 tags, 10 rules and five workflows; Webinar raises them to 100 campaigns, 100 tags, 100 rules and 20 workflows; Unlimited removes those ceilings.
For straightforward broadcasts, nurture and launch sequences, Systeme.io can be entirely sufficient. The difference appears when a marketing team expects email itself to become sophisticated. GetResponse has the stronger segmentation, list-management and marketing-analysis heritage.
Automation: GetResponse is more marketer-centric
GetResponse uses a visual workflow builder with conditions, actions and filters. Starter deliberately limits custom automation to one workflow with up to six elements. Marketer, Creator and Enterprise unlock full automation functionality, including unlimited workflows, scoring, website tracking and automation segmentation.
Systeme.io also provides visual workflows and automation rules, but its model is simpler and tightly connected to funnels, tags, email campaigns, course access and sales actions. Plan limits are explicit: one rule and one workflow on Free, 10 rules and five workflows on Startup, 100 rules and 20 workflows on Webinar, then unlimited on the $97 plan.
The more important difference is intent. GetResponse automation is built for marketers who want to segment, score, nurture and react to behaviour across an email/ecommerce lifecycle. Systeme.io automation is built for owners who want the business machine to run: opt in, tag the lead, send the sequence, sell the product, grant course access and route the buyer through the funnel.
For sophisticated email-led lifecycle programmes, GetResponse has the advantage. For a compact online business where automation mainly coordinates funnels, offers and course delivery, Systeme.io is easier to justify.
Sales funnels and checkout: Systeme.io wins
Funnels are not an add-on concept in Systeme.io; they are the heart of the product. Free includes three funnels and 15 funnel steps. Startup includes 10 funnels and 50 steps. Webinar increases that to 50 funnels and 300 steps. Unlimited removes the limits.
All plans also include one-click upsells, order bumps, payment integrations and zero platform transaction fees. The pricing page lists Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, Razorpay, Flutterwave, Mercado Pago, Xendit and other payment methods depending on availability. This makes Systeme.io unusually strong for a creator who wants to build a checkout-driven business without assembling a separate funnel builder and affiliate platform.
GetResponse has funnels too. Marketer and Creator include sales funnels, promo codes, revenue reporting and ecommerce capabilities. The difference is that funnels sit around GetResponse's email system, whereas in Systeme.io email sits inside the funnel/selling system.
If the business starts with “How do I build the sequence from ad or landing page to checkout to upsell?”, Systeme.io is the more natural product. If the business starts with “How do I nurture, segment and convert this audience over time?”, GetResponse is more natural.
Webinars: live versus evergreen is the crucial difference
This category looks like a tie until you examine what each platform means by “webinar.” It is not the same feature.
GetResponse supports true interactive live webinars. Its webinar room includes video and audio streaming, chat, polling, screen sharing, files and a digital whiteboard. Creator includes webinar access; the dedicated webinar documentation currently says up to 100 attendees are included, with a 500-attendee add-on available in eligible markets. Starter and Marketer can also buy webinar add-ons in supported regions.
Systeme.io supports evergreen, automated webinars on Webinar and Unlimited. The official help centre explicitly says live webinars are not currently supported. The webinar funnel is designed to make a recorded presentation appear on recurring schedules such as “today at 2 PM,” with registration and follow-up handled by the funnel.
That means coaches and marketers selling through automated webinar funnels may prefer Systeme.io. Businesses running live demos, workshops, Q&A sessions or interactive events should prefer GetResponse or use an external live webinar platform alongside Systeme.io.
Courses and knowledge products: Systeme.io wins on capacity; GetResponse wins on learning features
Systeme.io makes course hosting available on every plan. Free includes one course and up to 500 students according to the live pricing table. Startup includes five courses and unlimited students. Webinar includes 20 courses and unlimited students, while Unlimited removes the course cap.
The course builder supports lesson content, downloadable resources, drip scheduling, progress tracking, quizzes and student management. Systeme.io takes no platform transaction fee on sales, though normal payment-processor fees still apply. Course checkout can be tied directly into funnels, upsells and the affiliate system.
GetResponse concentrates course creation in Creator. The plan includes AI Course Creator, unlimited courses, up to 500 students at the entry tier, quizzes, certificates, video hosting, premium newsletters and a student mobile app. That is a more structured learning feature set, but it costs $69 per month before annual discount rather than appearing on the free plan.
Systeme.io is the clear capacity/value winner for a creator who simply needs to host and sell courses. GetResponse Creator is more compelling when certificates, AI-assisted course building, premium newsletters, webinars and deeper email marketing matter together.
Affiliate marketing: Systeme.io wins decisively
Systeme.io includes the ability to run your own affiliate program on every plan. That means a course creator or product seller can recruit affiliates, attribute sales and manage commissions without buying a separate affiliate-tracking platform.
The same ecosystem is used for Systeme.io's own affiliate program, and the platform also supports PayPal-related affiliate payout workflows. The practical value is not that every small business needs affiliate management; it is that affiliate-led growth is a native operating model rather than an integration project.
GetResponse has partnership and affiliate programmes for promoting GetResponse itself, but it does not position a general affiliate-management engine for your own products as a core product module. If building a seller/affiliate ecosystem is central to the business, Systeme.io has the stronger fit.
CRM and pipelines: Systeme.io is broader at the low end
Systeme.io now includes CRM pipelines directly in its pricing table. Free includes one pipeline, Startup five, Webinar 20 and Unlimited up to 100. The platform is still not Salesforce or HubSpot, but a coach, agency or small service business can track opportunities without adding another lightweight CRM immediately.
GetResponse is not positioned as a traditional sales CRM. It stores contacts, scores, tags, events and ecommerce activity and can automate marketing around them, but its product architecture is not centred on deal stages and sales pipelines.
If pipeline tracking is a modest supporting need, Systeme.io offers more out of the box. If sales CRM is mission-critical, neither should be selected without comparing dedicated CRM products.
Ecommerce and payments
Systeme.io is built to take payments directly. Its current pricing page lists physical products, inventory/shipping tools, variants, coupon codes, order bumps, upsells and a broad range of payment gateways. All plans advertise 0% platform transaction fees.
GetResponse has a strong marketing layer for ecommerce rather than a full commerce backend. Marketer and Creator add abandoned-cart recovery, promo codes, product recommendations, revenue reports and sales funnels. Native integrations such as Shopify provide the product/customer data that drives those campaigns.
The winner depends on the business model. Systeme.io is stronger when you want the platform itself to host the checkout, offer, funnel and digital/physical product flow. GetResponse is stronger when the store already exists elsewhere and the priority is sophisticated marketing around customer behaviour.
Websites, landing pages and forms
Both products can replace a separate landing-page builder for many small businesses. GetResponse includes landing pages and forms across paid plans and provides a website builder on Creator. Annual plans also advertise a free custom domain for the first year.
Systeme.io includes website and blog capacity directly in the plan structure. The live pricing table currently shows one website on Free, five on Startup, 20 on Webinar and unlimited on Unlimited. Booking-calendar events scale similarly, while bookings themselves are unlimited.
For lead-generation pages tied to email campaigns, GetResponse is polished and straightforward. For an online business that wants the website, funnel, checkout, course and affiliate program to share one builder, Systeme.io is the more integrated proposition.
Reporting and segmentation: GetResponse wins
GetResponse has the stronger marketing-analysis layer. Marketer and Creator support advanced segmentation, ecommerce events, revenue reporting, website tracking, scoring and deeper audience analysis. That matters when a team needs to ask not only who bought, but which behaviours and messages moved different customer groups toward conversion.
Systeme.io provides campaign statistics, funnel analytics, contact tags and business reporting, but its model is simpler. The platform is designed to help an owner see whether a funnel, email or offer is working rather than serve as a specialised audience-analysis environment.
A solo creator may prefer Systeme.io because the reporting is adequate without becoming another discipline to manage. A growth marketer working with segments, behavioural journeys and ecommerce lifecycle programmes will get more from GetResponse.
AI features: GetResponse has the stronger current story
GetResponse has integrated AI across email and content creation. Its current plans include AI email and subject-line generation, AI campaign tools, and Creator includes an AI Course Creator. Higher tiers use AI for product recommendations and other marketing functions.
Systeme.io is not currently differentiated by a comparable AI-first marketing layer. Its value proposition is automation and consolidation rather than extensive generative or predictive AI. For buyers specifically trying to use AI inside campaign production or course creation, GetResponse is ahead.
That is not a reason by itself to pay more. Systeme.io can still be the better business platform if funnels, selling and course delivery are the real requirements. AI should be judged by the work it removes, not by the number of AI labels on a feature page.
Integrations and API
GetResponse has a broad integration directory covering ecommerce, CRM, payments, forms, productivity and marketing, plus API and webhooks. It is designed to sit comfortably inside a wider marketing stack.
Systeme.io increasingly supports integrations and exposes an API, but the philosophy is more self-contained: replace the funnel builder, email platform, course host and affiliate tool rather than connect them. Its live pricing page lists integrations with tools such as Google Sheets, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Zoom, ActiveCampaign, SendGrid and Twilio SMS, with API request limits scaling by plan.
If a business has many existing specialist systems and needs marketing data to flow between them, GetResponse is the safer starting point. If the goal is to remove specialist tools, Systeme.io's smaller integration burden is part of the appeal.
Deliverability and domain authentication
Both platforms require or strongly encourage custom-domain authentication and provide guidance around SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Systeme.io now says domain authentication is mandatory for sending through its platform and requires an active website on that domain. Its help centre also advises against purchased/scraped lists and recommends cleaning inactive contacts.
GetResponse strongly advises custom DKIM and DMARC and can automatically configure DKIM, DMARC and SPF-related records for many supported domain providers. It also documents list hygiene and sender-authentication requirements driven by Gmail, Yahoo and Microsoft changes.
ToolRankers does not assign either platform a universal deliverability percentage because no original inbox-placement test was provided for this article. Deliverability depends on list quality, authentication, sender reputation, complaints, engagement and recipient providers. Both supply the technical basics; sender behaviour remains decisive.
Support and migration
Systeme.io's live pricing page includes 24/7 email support on all plans and currently advertises an average response time under two hours, seven days a week. It also offers free migration as a plan perk, with the strongest migration positioning around Unlimited and annual subscriptions.
GetResponse provides a help centre, email support and live chat, but its current dedicated support page says human chat is available Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 10 PM GMT+1 in English, with a chatbot available 24/7. Email support is also described as Monday to Friday with replies targeted within 24 hours. Enterprise adds premium priority support.
On paper, Systeme.io is more generous at the low end. The trade-off is support channel: it is primarily email-based. GetResponse provides live chat during its published hours and a broader enterprise support model.
Privacy, security and data location
Systeme.io is operated by ITACWT Limited, an Irish company. Its privacy policy states that servers are hosted by Amazon Web Services in Ireland, customer data is stored in Ireland and is not transferred outside the European Union. The policy also describes encrypted storage, restricted internal access, backups and monitoring.
GetResponse publishes a Data Processing Agreement and privacy policy supporting GDPR-related obligations, and two-factor authentication is mandatory in accounts and subaccounts. Enterprise adds single sign-on. The platform also provides detailed email-domain and data-processing documentation suitable for formal vendor review.
Both are workable for European buyers, but businesses with strict procurement requirements should review the current DPA, subprocessors and security documentation directly rather than relying on a general “GDPR compliant” marketing statement.
Refunds and cancellation
GetResponse has a strict published refund policy. Paid subscription charges are non-refundable after processing, even if the account is cancelled shortly afterward. Cancellation stops future charges, but not the charge already made for the current monthly or annual period.
Systeme.io help documentation says subscriptions are non-refundable under its terms, although refund requests can be reviewed case by case in special circumstances. Cancellation takes effect at the next payment/expiration date, and the current pricing FAQ says an account can fall back to the Free tier; contacts above the Free limit are archived rather than deleted.
Both platforms therefore reward careful evaluation before annual payment. Systeme.io reduces that risk because the permanent Free plan is unusually capable. GetResponse reduces it through its free account and 14-day premium-feature period, but its paid plan becomes binding once charged.
GetResponse vs Systeme.io by business type
| Business type | Better fit | Why | Main caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| New creator with no budget | Systeme.io | 2,000 contacts, unlimited email, funnels, course and affiliate tools on Free | Email segmentation is less sophisticated |
| Newsletter-led small business | GetResponse | Stronger campaign tools, list management and segmentation | Free plan is much smaller |
| Course creator selling through funnels | Systeme.io | Course + checkout + upsells + affiliate program in one low-cost stack | No live webinar feature |
| Coach running live webinars | GetResponse | Native interactive webinar room and integrated follow-up | Creator costs more than Systeme.io Webinar |
| Evergreen webinar seller | Systeme.io | Webinar plan is designed for automated webinar funnels | Not suitable for live sessions |
| Ecommerce marketer using Shopify | GetResponse | Abandoned-cart, product recommendations and marketing automation around store data | Not a full ecommerce backend |
| Digital-product business with affiliates | Systeme.io | Built-in affiliate management and 0% platform transaction fee | Reporting/segmentation are simpler |
| Automation-heavy growth team | GetResponse Marketer | Unlimited advanced workflows, scoring, website tracking and segmentation | Higher base cost |
| Small agency / multi-project operator | Systeme.io Unlimited | Unlimited contacts/funnels and extensive plan capacity | Check subaccount/team requirements carefully |
Three scenarios that make the trade-off obvious
Scenario 1: a coach has 1,200 subscribers, one flagship course and a simple webinar funnel. If the webinar is recorded and evergreen, Systeme.io Free can run a surprising amount of the business before any subscription is required. GetResponse can build stronger email journeys, but the buyer would be paying for depth that may not yet change revenue.
Scenario 2: a B2B marketer has 8,000 subscribers, several lead magnets, weekly newsletters, behavioural nurture, lead scoring and regular live product demos. GetResponse Marketer or Creator is the more natural fit because the email and segmentation requirements are the centre of the operation. Systeme.io can send the mail and host funnels, but the team is likely to feel its simpler marketing data model.
Scenario 3: an information-product business wants 15 funnels, several courses, affiliate recruitment, order bumps, upsells and no anxiety about email-send charges. Systeme.io Webinar or Unlimited has the stronger economics because those functions are native and its sending remains unlimited. Rebuilding that stack around GetResponse would require deciding how to handle affiliate management and possibly other commerce functions outside the platform.
The correct comparison is therefore not “Which platform has more features?” Both have plenty. The useful question is “Which platform makes my main revenue process native instead of integrated?”
When GetResponse is the better choice
- Email marketing and audience segmentation are the centre of your growth strategy.
- You need advanced automation, scoring, website tracking or deeper behavioural workflows.
- You run live interactive webinars rather than only evergreen recorded webinar funnels.
- You already have a store, CRM or checkout system and want a specialised marketing layer around it.
- You need stronger campaign reporting and ecommerce lifecycle marketing.
- You value AI-assisted campaign and course creation inside the marketing platform.
When Systeme.io is the better choice
- You want to start a course, coaching, affiliate or digital-product business at the lowest possible software cost.
- You need funnels, checkout, upsells, order bumps, courses and affiliate management in one platform.
- You want unlimited email sending even on the free plan.
- You need a permanent free plan that can support a real business before revenue arrives.
- You use evergreen/automated webinars rather than live interactive events.
- You prefer predictable contact-tier pricing and want the option of unlimited contacts at $97/month.
Migration considerations
Moving from Systeme.io to GetResponse is usually driven by marketing maturity. Export contacts with consent data, tags and relevant attributes, then redesign the audience structure before import. Because GetResponse counts the same email address separately when it appears on multiple lists, copying Systeme.io segments into separate GetResponse lists without planning can inflate billing.
Moving from GetResponse to Systeme.io is usually driven by consolidation or cost. The contacts are the easy part. The real migration is rebuilding automations, landing pages, funnels, webinar logic and checkout flows. If GetResponse live webinars are in use, Systeme.io cannot replace that function directly because its native webinar product is evergreen only.
For either direction, authenticate the sending domain before relaunching campaigns, preserve suppression/unsubscribe records, and warm up sending with the most engaged contacts rather than blasting the full list immediately. Rebuilding one complete customer journey before switching DNS, payment or campaign infrastructure is the safest proof of fit.
Final verdict
GetResponse and Systeme.io have converged on many of the same features while remaining different products underneath. GetResponse is the stronger marketing platform. Systeme.io is the stronger low-cost business builder.
GetResponse wins when the buyer needs advanced audience segmentation, sophisticated email automation, ecommerce lifecycle marketing, stronger reporting or true live webinars. It also fits companies that already have a sales or commerce stack and want a dedicated marketing engine rather than one tool to run the whole business.
Systeme.io wins when the buyer wants to turn an idea into a functioning online business with as few subscriptions as possible. Its permanent Free plan is exceptional: 2,000 contacts, unlimited email, funnels, a course, affiliate management and checkout tools. The $97 Unlimited plan is also unusually simple for businesses that want to stop thinking about contact, funnel and automation ceilings.
ToolRankers would choose GetResponse for an email-led marketer, ecommerce lifecycle team or business running live webinars. We would choose Systeme.io for a course creator, coach, affiliate-driven seller, funnel business or early-stage entrepreneur who values consolidation and predictable cost more than marketing sophistication.
The simplest way to decide is to ask what would hurt more to lose. If the answer is advanced email segmentation and live marketing operations, choose GetResponse. If the answer is funnels, course delivery, checkout and affiliate management, choose Systeme.io.

Source notes
Primary official vendor pages were prioritised, and current search results were reviewed to identify stale comparison claims. Pricing and plan limits were checked on 6 October 2026. Systeme.io has several older campaign/pricing pages with legacy prices, so this article uses the current official pricing page showing Startup at $17/month. GetResponse official pages currently contain a webinar-attendance discrepancy; the feature-specific webinar documentation is treated as the safer operational source.
